Closing Ceremony of the 69th Annual New Year School and Conference

The 69th Annual New Year School and Conference, organized by the School of Continuing and Distance Education, College of Education, has ended. The Annual New Year School and Conference, which has been held consistently since 1949, provides the platform for the discussion of important issues of national and international concern.

The 69th edition was on the theme, “Job Creation for Accelerated National Development: The Role of the Private Sector”, and attracted 350 participants from all over the country, and from various sectors.

The Chairman for the closing ceremony, Professor Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic and Students Affairs, stated that the University is in the process of revising its academic programs, with a focus on intellectual development to create and train the 21st century graduate, as well as entrepreneurship and critical thinking. This new focus will be more responsive to the needs of industry and the country and will be the University’s contribution to ensure that the youth, a great resource to national development, are adequately educated and trained to acquire the skills needed in the work environment.

Professor Offei commended the School of Continuing and Distance Education for the choice of  a very relevant theme; noting that employment and job creation are key to the development of the nation.

Dr. Eric Osei-Assibey, co-Director of the School and Conference, presented the final communique of the School, which highlighted the various sub-themes, and suggestions for policy interventions.

 Participants shared their views on the School, and commented on various sessions, topics discussed, and logistics. They also made recommendations towards the 70th Annual New Year School and Conference.

Professor Michael Tagoe, Acting Provost of the College, who is also the Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education, thanked the various speakers and chairpersons for taking time off their busy schedules to be a part of the School and Conference. He thanked participants for their recommendations and gave assurance that it would go a long way to shape next year’s Annual New Year School and Conference.
