College of Education Confers Degrees on Over 3,000 Graduates at February 2025 Congregation

The University of Ghana's College of Education has conferred degrees on over 3,000 students during its February 2025 Congregation Ceremony. The graduating cohort, who successfully completed BA, BSc and Diploma programmes in the 2023/2024 academic year, were honoured across four ceremonial sessions.

The ceremonies, held at the Great Hall and Cedi Conference Centre at the University of Ghana was graced by distinguished speakers, including representatives of the Chancellor, who warmly welcomed all in attendance. In her address, the Chancellor extended her heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, commending their resilience, dedication and unwavering commitment. Acknowledging the challenges they had surmounted; she commended them for maintaining their focus and determination.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s report on the state of the University, the Vice-Chancellor and senior officials who represented her at various sessions of the congregation ceremonies highlighted the significance of the occasion. The Vice-Chancellor described graduation as both the culmination of the students’ academic journey and the pathway to new opportunities, challenges and responsibilities. Encouraging the graduates to reflect on their time at the University, she urged them to leverage the skills acquired, relationships built and knowledge gained to navigate the future with creativity and determination.

The congregation featured thought-provoking addresses from three distinguished guest speakers. Mrs. Gertrude Oforiwa Fefoame, an expert in disability rights and the current Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), addressed two of the sessions. Dr. Albert Frimpong, a seasoned legal professional and a State Attorney at the Office of the Attorney General, Ghana, also shared his insights. Additionally, Mrs. Ellen Affam-Dadzie, a respected social worker, special educator and counsellor, inspired graduates with her reflections on personal and professional growth.

Each session saw a valedictorian deliver a heartfelt address, reflecting on the university experience and aspirations for the future. The formal conferment of degrees followed, led by the Chancellor, after the graduates were presented by their respective Deans.

In her closing remarks, the Chancellor encouraged the graduates to uphold the University of Ghana’s values of Integrity, Commitment, Respect, and Loyalty. She urged them to remain connected to their alma mater through active participation in the University of Ghana Alumni Association. “Remember,” she advised, “it is not what you are given but what you make out of life that sets you apart.”

The ceremony was expertly moderated by the College Registrar of the College of Education and the Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, ensuring a seamless and memorable event for all in attendance.
