The College of Education has organized a training programme on practical and effective cleaning and maintenance for cleaners in the College on the Legon campus, as well as their supervisors. The training was facilitated by ADVAL Global Ghana Limited, a professional cleaning organization, and cleaners and their supervisors were taken through practical demonstrations of effective cleaning and maintenance.
Mrs. Beatrice Clottey, Human Resource Officer for the College of Education, welcomed participants and urged them to participate fully, in order to upgrade their skills to help maintain and clean the College effectively.
Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, College Secretary, briefed participants about the core values, mission, vision and Strategic Plan of the College. She explained the core values for staff and students of the College which are to be innovative, inclusive and responsive, and to ensure that they display integrity, commitment, loyalty and respect in all they do. She emphasized that all staff, including cleaners, have a role to play to help the College attain its goals. She encouraged participants to challenge themselves to do what they can on an everyday basis to make the College of Education a pleasant place to study and work in, for all stakeholders.

Mr. Emmanuel Addai, head of ADVAL Global Ghana Limited, led the training sessions. There were separate sessions for cleaners, their supervisors, and a joint session for both groups.
Participants outlined various challenges they face in their work, and possible solutions to these were also discussed.
During the final, practical session, the ADVAL team took participants through effective ways of cleaning, with demonstrations of chemical application, professional buffing, washroom disinfecting, washroom management, eliminating odor, proper office mopping, professional cleaning techniques and many more.

In closing remarks, Mrs. Beatrice Clottey encouraged participants to apply what they had learnt to help the College of Education meet the required standards in workplace cleanliness, and to provide a pleasant working environment to help the College meet its set goals and assist in fulfilling the vision of the University of Ghana. She noted that similar training programmes would soon be held in the Learning Centres.
