A congregation ceremony has been held for graduate students of the College of Education who successfully completed their programmes in the 2017/2018 academic year.
The ceremony was presided over by Mrs. Rosa Kudoadzi, a member of the University Council, who represented the Chancellor, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse. She congratulated the graduating students and reminded the gathering that this was the first time in the history of the University that a female Chancellor was presiding over congregation ceremonies. She noted that management of the University is committed to improving upon graduation rates and student satisfaction and would do all in its power to provide students with a memorable experience. She also urged graduating students to take stock of what they have achieved and make a conscious decision to let their experiences at the University of Ghana count in their future endeavours.

The acting Provost of the College of Education, Professor Michael Tagoe, highlighted the commitment of the College to remove barriers that restrict access and success in university-level studies, through excellence in teaching, research and scholarship.
He expressed appreciation to faculty members, tutors and administrators who worked hard to provide the necessary support for graduands to successfully complete their studies.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Kwame Offei who delivered the Vice-Chancellor’s address, congratulated graduating students for their achievements, and urged graduands to be worthy ambassadors of the University and to strive to exhibit the core values of the University, which are loyalty, respect, integrity and commitment.

The guest speaker for the ceremony, Mr. Daniel McKorley, Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Compainies, who is CIMG marketing man for 2017, shared his life story with the gathering, and urged the graduating students to set high standards for themselves. He charged them to be law abiding citizens, contribute their quota to the building of the nation, hold onto their integrity no matter the cost and to give back to society whenever they have the opportunity.

The valedictorian, Mr. Noah Adjei-Darko, who graduated with a Master of Philosophy degree in Information Studies, recollected the long and often arduous journey which had brought them to their graduation day, and on behalf of the graduating class, thanked faculty, administrators and staff of the College of Education, as well as the families of graduating students, for their support.
He reminded his colleagues that there is the need for them all to be agents of change, and leaders of this generation; noting that their relevance to society will be measured according to the problems they solve and the legacy they leave behind.
He stated “the world is waiting for our input; our families need us, our society needs us, our country needs us, Africa needs us and the world needs us”.
