The University of Ghana’s Kumasi City Campus has celebrated its first anniversary with a heartwarming blend of reflection, celebration, and community spirit.
The on-campus celebration brought together Level 100 students and staff for a day filled with engaging activities and joyful interaction. Although Level 200 students who are pioneers of the campus, were on vacation and could not attend, their foundational role over the past year was warmly acknowledged throughout the celebrations.

Established in 2024, the Kumasi City Campus is the University’s newest satellite campus, envisioned as a student-centred academic environment offering accessible and supportive higher education in the Ashanti Region. The anniversary offered a moment to pause, reflect on the journey thus far and celebrate the growing sense of belonging that defines the campus.
Mr. Eric Acheampong, the School Administrator, together with campus staff, joined students in marking the occasion. The event also gave students the opportunity to voice their experiences and reflections on campus life.

Many students commended the welcoming atmosphere and the supportive culture that has taken root. “I thought university life would be full of awkward moments,” confessed a Level 100 student. “But my experience here over the past month has completely changed that perception. We have great interactions with both staff and lecturers.”
Another student reflected on the convenience and cohesion the campus offers: “Everything is within reach, and I’ve never regretted choosing this campus. My aim is to graduate with very good grades at the end of my four years.”

Students also highlighted the benefits of smaller class sizes and the attentiveness of both academic and non-academic staff. “Our smaller class sizes mean lecturers are approachable and responsive to our concerns,” one student shared. Another added, “The non-teaching staff actually check in on us; something I never experienced at the secondary level.”
After the reflective segment, the atmosphere turned festive as a series of light-hearted games and competitions brought students together in laughter and camaraderie. Activities such as Pick and Act, a bottle-flipping challenge, and a dance competition energised the crowd and reinforced the sense of unity that characterises the campus. The day concluded with cheerful group photos, capturing the joy of the occasion.
As the University of Ghana Kumasi City Campus enters its second year, the anniversary celebration reaffirmed the University of Ghana’s commitment to extending quality, student-focused higher education beyond its main campus. With a solid foundation laid and a vibrant community spirit in place, the campus looks ahead to a future of growth and enriched student experience.
