University of Ghana at 70: College of Education Launches Anniversary Celebrations

It was all fun and excitement at the Athletics Oval when the College of Education launched its activities marking the 70th Anniversary celebrations of the University of Ghana. The launch was marked with a talk on healthy lifestyles, an aerobics session, fun games and a tree planting exercise.

The event was well attended with staff, faculty and students taking an active part in the traditional and creative games organized by the College. The tree planting exercise took place on the Boundary road near GIMPA, with 96 trees planted. Students from the Department of Physical Education and Sports demonstrated through various sporting activities, diverse ways of cultivating entrepreneurial skills and values such as teamwork, creativity and risk taking.

 

  

 

  

Fun games

Mr. C. K. Bruce, a member of the College Advisory Board, who officially launched the celebration, noted that, in spite of being the youngest College in the University of Ghana, the College of Education has grown from strength to strength in the four years that it has been in existence. He assured all present that the College Advisory Board was committed to working with management of the College towards attaining the vision the College to become fully ICT-driven.

Professor Olivia Kwapong, chairperson of the Planning Committee for the College’s UG@70 activities, gave a summary of upcoming events, which include a Durbar and a Colloquium, an exhibition of research work of faculty, a panel discussion on entrepreneurship, and alumni homecoming events.

Prof. Michael Tagoe, Acting Provost of the College, commended participants for their impressive participation in the programme, and called on all to continue to support and actively participate in the activities for the celebration. He also used the opportunity given to encourage all staff and students to support the College as it strives to meet the objectives for which it was established.

Tree planting
