This year’s Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC) was the 74th in series. It was under the theme, “Positioning the African Market for Sustainable Economic Development through the AfCFTA.” Participants had the opportunity to learn and discuss what the African Continental and Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) was all about and the opportunities available to them and the continent as a whole. The central point in this year’s School and Conference was about how the African market could be positioned to stimulate sustainable continental economic growth. The conference which started with the arrival of participants from Monday, January 16 ended with the Youth School on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the School was opened by the Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with some very important dignitaries in attendance. The Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Provosts, Deans, Directors and other Senior Officials of the University, faculty, administrators, staff and students were present. The occasion was graced by the Hon Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Opare, Hon. Sam Okudzeto, member of the Council of State and Chair of the Corporate Advisory Team of the Annual New Year School and Conference and Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi, Deputy Governor, Bank of Ghana. Other dignitaries who attended included Hon. Herbert Krapa Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr. Fareed Arthur, the Coordinator, National AfCFTA Coordination Office (NCO), Mr, Jacob Gyamfi-Aidoo, Senior Advisor, Stakeholder Engagements & Capacity Building,NCO, Government officials, Diplomatic Corp, Traditional rulers and the general public.
The Opening ceremony was chaired by the Chancellor, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse. The Keynote speaker was the General-Secretary of AfCFTA, H.E Wamkele Mene. Statements were taken from Hon. Sam Okudzeto, Chair of the Corporate Advisory Team of the Annual New Year School and Conference and the Chairman & CEO of McDan Group of Companies, Mr. Daniel McKorley. This year’s private sector partner was McDan Group of Companies.
