The new Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe has embarked on a roadshow to share his vision with the various constituent units of the College. The interactions enabled him to share his vision for the College for the period of 2022-2025.

Outlining the three (3) key strategic objectives that underpinned his vision, Prof. Codjoe pledged to facilitate the following: Improve Research, Innovation and Development in the College; Improve and Expand the Distance Education (DE) and Sandwich Programmes; and deliberate with various departments towards the Introduction of New Courses as well as Enhance Relationship with Stakeholders.

In his presentation, the Provost emphasised on the need for faculty to actively engage in research and apply for research grants which have a lot of potential in developing their capacity. Pursuant to this, He challenged faculty to apply for research grants that are advertised by the Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID) as well as international research grants. He also advised faculty to collaborate on research projects to enable them to enhance their research capabilities and increase the research output of the College of Education. To buttress this, he presented statistics on how government subvention has dwindled over the years from 55% in 2011 to 45% in 2018. He also gave data to suggest the decline of academic fees income and argued that the only source of funds that has not suffered the fate of the above two was research grants, which appreciated from 11% to about 20% in 2018.

During the interactions, faculty and staff present also enumerated a number of challenges that affect their work in the College. These included low motivation, inadequate incentives, delays in staff promotion, inadequate office space, delays in procurement processes, among others.

The Provost expressed his appreciation to faculty and staff for their participation in the interactions. The College fraternity also pledged their support towards the realisation of the vision of the Provost. He disclosed that his legacy project would be the setting up of a Centre for Educational Research for the College.
