Provost Promotes 75th Anniversary of the University

The Provost, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe led management of the College of Education and the Annual New Year School and Conference Secretariat have promoted activities of the 75th Anniversary of the University of Ghana and that of the 74th New Year School and Conference. It will be recalled that on the 29th November 2022, the Provost chaired the launch of the 74th Annual New Year School and Conference at the Smart classroom of the School of Continuing and Distance Education.

Prof. Codjoe used the opportunity to urge staff and students to actively participate in the events lined up for both programmes and to also promote the University through the 75th anniversary logo by posting photos on social media using the hash tag UG is 75-#UGIS75.

Additionally, the 74th edition of the Annual New Year School and Conference which is scheduled to take place from 17th-19th January, 2023, under the theme, “Positioning African Market for Sustainable Economic Development through AfCFTA” hopes to bring on board activities that will respond to the present needs of citizens. The 19thDecember, 2023 will be an exclusive conference for the Youth which has been dubbed, the Annual New Year Youth School. In the last 4 years, the youth has been part of the central focus of the Conference.  

The Annual New Year School and Conference is a yearly programme run by the School of Continuing and Distance Education, College of Education in partnership with Government Ministries, Agencies and Corporate bodies based on the theme. It will be opened by the President of the Republic of Ghana H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday 17th January, 2023 at the Great Hall, Legon. The 2023 edition is in collaboration with the Ministries of Finance, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and the National AfCFTA Coordination Office and the AfCFTA Secretariat.

The 75th Anniversary logo will be exhibited during the opening ceremony for participants to take pictures with. Other side attractions for this year’s celebrations include exhibitions. The panel discussions will cover the following sub-themes:

          1. Financial Sector Preparedness for AfCFTA
          2. Business, Investment and Industry Preparedness for AfCFTA
          3. Educational Sector Preparedness for AfCFTA
          4. Governance, Peace and Security Preparedness for AfCFTA
          5. Digital Technology Development Preparedness for AfCFTA
          6. Women in Trade
          7. AfCFTA Diaspora Relations

The Provost who was appointed some few months ago, is poised to work hard to make the College of Education the preferred destination for Education Studies and Research through (3) key strategic objectives. The objectives are to Improve Research, Innovation and Development in the College; Improve and Expand the Distance Education (DE) and Sandwich Programmes; and the Introduction of New Courses as well as Enhance Relationship with Stakeholders.
