The Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe and a team from the College Secretariat on Wednesday, 25th January, 2023 paid a working visit to the Tema Learning Centre to familiarise themselves with the operations of the Centre.
As part of the visit, the Provost, College Secretary, Joseph Oduro Nkansah; Assistant Registrar, Ms. Dorinda Yeboah and the Senior Administrative Assistant, Ms. Audrey Djarbeng, inspected the College’s ongoing building project at Tema. They also interacted with staff on initiatives to deliver quality education to students within Tema and its environs.

In his welcome address, the Head of the Tema Learning Centre, Dr. Boadi Agyekum expressed his appreciation and that of his staff to the Provost and his team for visiting the Centre. He highlighted on some strategies that his team had taken to increase student enrolment at the Centre. He added that his team has ensured that they deliver great customer service to their students by actively using digital tools to reach out to students and follow up on their applications to the University of Ghana.

Addressing the staff, the Provost commended them for establishing good customer relations with prospective and continuing students. He indicated that his visit was a way of interacting and allowing all staff to get on board by sharing their ideas on making the Centre a better one. He also stated that he was ready to work with them towards revenue generation at the Centre as well as exploring other programmes that could meet the educational needs of individuals within the Tema enclave.
Sharing his vision with staff, the Provost declared that he plans on making research a driving force in the College and urged staff at the Centre to actively work together to enhance the research capacity of the College.

On his part, the College Secretary, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah noted that the visit was a means of touching base with activities at the Centre whilst recognising and appreciating the efforts of staff. He and the Assistant Registrar used the occasion to highlight modalities of promotion at the University of Ghana and urged staff to apply for promotion when they are due.
Subsequently, staff enumerated some administrative and academic concerns and suggested initiatives that could be adopted to increase enrollment at the Centre. They also called for the running of Masters programmes to meet the current needs of learners.
In his closing remarks, the Provost assured staff that he and his team had noted the concerns raised and would put in place measures to mitigate these issues. He was grateful to the staff for the warm reception and informed them that he would visit them regularly. He also advised them to further their education and achieve their aspirations.

Later in the day, the Head of the Tema Learning Centre led the team on a tour of the classrooms at the Chemu Senior High School, where students have their lessons as well as an inspection of the project site.

To climax his visit, the Provost hosted the Head and his staff to a luncheon which was interspersed with music.
The Tema Learning Centre is one of the eleven University of Ghana Learning Centres located in the previous ten regions of Ghana. It currently offers undergraduate programmes at the Chemu Senior High School on weekends.
