The College of Education organised a two-day subject-based manual training workshop for Tutors in the six (6) Colleges of Education affiliated to the University of Ghana from 28th- 29th September, 2022.

The main thrust of the workshop was to facilitate the implementation of the 4-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme in the Colleges of Education by empowering Tutors in various facilitation methods to enhance the delivery of lessons and assessments to students.
In his welcome address, the Dean of the School of Education and Leadership, Prof. Gordon S. K. Adika indicated that the University of Ghana is committed to mentoring its affiliate Colleges of Education and would work with professional colleagues to co-create understanding of course manuals to the benefit of student teachers. To ensure the successful implementation of the B.Ed programme, he disclosed that some key strategies had been adopted by the College to complement teaching and learning.

Highlighting on these strategies, Prof. Adika indicated that the College would intensify collaborative discussions on course requirements and leverage on the change agent system to support the implementation of the curriculum. He noted that the College was aware of the unique challenges that some Tutors face with the implementation of the curriculum in the classroom and gave the assurance that the workshop would ensure that “resources and their users are properly interfaced in order to achieve a high-level synergy in the implementation process”.
Prof. Adika stated that the University of Ghana was collaborating with T-Tel (Transforming Teaching and Learning) to find lasting solutions to these challenges and encouraged Tutors to also propose innovative solutions in this regard.

Delivering the closing remarks, the Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe indicated that he was happy about the active participation of the Tutors at the workshop and encouraged them to exhibit similar ethos in the classroom. He stated that he was committed to strengthening the relationship the University of Ghana had with its affiliated Colleges of Education and would work together with them to deliver on their mandates.

Prof. Codjoe used the occasion to share his vision of ensuring that faculty members engage in vigorous and collaborative research which was an impetus for promotion to higher ranks in the educational sector. He disclosed that he had surfed the websites of the affiliate Colleges of Education to familiarize himself with their activities and programmes. He noted that the websites served as advertising channels to the public and urged participants to ensure that the webpages of their respective Colleges are regularly updated.
The workshop was interspersed with course group discussions and presentation of lessons by subject leads and participants.
Facilitators at the workshop included Dr. Emmanuel Adjei-Boateng, Coordinator of the B.Ed Programme; Dr. Kwaku Darko Amponsah, Head, Department of Teacher Education; Dr. Cecilia Tutu-Danquah and other faculty members from the School of Education and Leadership. Also present at the workshop was Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, College Secretary, College of Education.
The six Colleges of Education affiliated to the University of Ghana include the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) College of Education, Amedzofe, Mount Mary, Accra, Gbewaa, Peki and Enchi Colleges of Education.
