The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, on 21st February 2022, led a delegation from the University on a working visit to the Cape Coast Learning Centre. The delegation inspected ongoing activities at the Centre and later interacted with staff and students.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Central Regional Minister, Honourable Marigold Asan, during which the Vice-Chancellor officially introduced herself and rallied the Minister's support for the University. She also used the occasion to solicit her help in averting further encroachment on University of Ghana lands in Cape Coast.
On her part, Hon. Asan congratulated Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo on her appointment as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the premiere University in Ghana. She gave assurance of her unflinching support and also used the opportunity to encourage women in institutions to excel in their respective roles while serving as role models to the younger generation.

At the Cape Coast Learning Centre, the delegation was warmly received by students and staff. Dr. Hayford Ayerakwa, Head of the Learning Centre led the delegation to inspect the facilities available which included lecture halls, computer laboratory and the Centre's bungalow. An interactive session was held to engage staff of the Centre to address various concerns.
Earlier in the day, Prof. Gordon Awandare, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio, Ag. Provost of the College of Education, and Dr. Hayford Ayerakwa, had a session on Radio Central where they discussed the programmes offered by the Centre and the relevance of bringing world-class education to the doorsteps of the people in the Central Region.

Prof. Awandare stated that the Learning Centres were the wings of the University that sought to bring education to the doorsteps of potential students so that they would not have to travel to the Legon Main Campus to obtain the same quality of education. Prof. Awandare also pointed out that plans were underway to modernise all lecture halls across the country and reiterated the commitment of University Management to invest heavily in technology to enable prospective learners to access education remotely. This has been through its Sakai Learning Management System and recently through the signature project of the Vice-Chancellor’s One-Student-One-Laptop initiative, among others.
On his part, Prof. Martin Oteng-Ababio revealed that the University was in the business of increasing accessibility of tertiary education to the citizenry and announced that plans were underway to run postgraduate programmes at all the learning centres including that of Cape Coast.

Speaking at the session, Dr. Ayerakwa disclosed that there were arrangements to install an E-Library among other facilities to enhance the learning experience of students at the centre. He also gave an overview of the admissions processes and programmes on offer at the Centre.
