Director of the Sports and Wellness Directorate Presents Trophies to Provost of College of Education

In a recent ceremony, Dr. Austin Luguterah, the newly appointed Director of the Sport and Wellness Directorate, visited the College of Education to present two trophies to Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, the Provost of the College of Education. Notably, one of the trophies was a replica of the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Professor Codjoe expressed a warm welcome to Dr. Luguterah, noting that the occasion was special as the College was receiving one of their own. This was followed by self-introductions.

During his remarks, Dr. Luguterah explained that the visit was to fulfill a promise he made to the Provost during the Provost’s Tournament recently organised by the College in collaboration with the Education Students’ Association, where he had committed to presenting a trophy to be used in future tournaments.

Dr. Luguterah further shared that his inspiration came from the Provost’s passion for enhancing sports programmes and other engagements, which aligns with his own vision. He proposed that while the College could introduce different trophies for various games, football matches should be prioritised for the overall trophy.

In response, Professor Codjoe emphasised that the Provost’s Tournament has now been institutionalised and will become an annual event, rotating among the various affiliated Colleges, including the University of Ghana College of Education (UGCOE). He added that the second tournament would still be hosted by the University of Ghana to firm it up before it starts to rotate. Professor Codjoe emphasised that enhancing the students’ experience is a key priority for the College.

Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, the College Registrar, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Luguterah for his thoughtful gesture and acknowledged that the College anticipates additional support in other areas from the Sports and Wellness Directorate. He assured Dr. Luguterah of the College’s readiness to provide any necessary assistance.

Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah, College Finance Officer

Expressing similar sentiments, the College Finance Officer, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah, commended the Provost for this initiative, noting that it aligns with priorities one, two, and four of the University’s newly launched strategic plan, which focuses on a Transformative Student Experience, Commitment to Faculty and Staff, and Engagement and Partnerships, respectively.

 

In his closing remarks, the Provost expressed his confidence in Dr. Luguterah, reaffirming the College's commitment to support his initiatives. He assured that the trophies would be safeguarded and used for their intended purposes.
