College of Education Organises its First Inter-College Lecture for the 2023/2024 Academic Year

The College of Education recently hosted its first Inter-College Lecture for the 2023/2024 academic year, with an insightful presentation by Professor Isaac Kofi Biney, Head of the UG Learning Centres, College of Education. The lecture, titled "Transforming Local Communities in Ghana: Is dialogue-based education the answer?" delved into the benefits of dialogue-based education for grassroots communities in Ghana, emphasising its role in promoting a self-help spirit in community development projects in the past.

COE Holds Virtual webinar on African Perspectives of Generative AI

Following the College of Education’s launch of activities to celebrate the 2024 DSRA, the College held a virtual panel discussion centered around the theme, “Generative AI: African Perspectives on its Challenges and Prospects.” This event aimed to explore the challenges and prospects of generative AI in the African context, with particular focus on education, data, extraction and usage, societal acceptance, risk management as well as ethical and legal implications.

University of Ghana Kumasi City Campus Embarks on Outreach Programmes to Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region

In a series of impactful engagements, the University of Ghana Kumasi City Campus (UGKCC), under the College of Education, has embarked on an extensive outreach programme aimed at educating, supporting and advising final year Senior High School students in the Ashanti Region. This initiative was designed to enhance awareness of the presence of the University of Ghana in the region.

UGCOE Celebrates the 2024 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa with a Poster/Logo Challenge

The College of Education recently held a poster/logo competition to mark the launch of the College’s commemoration of the 2024 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA). The event, which took place at the smart classroom of the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE), provided a platform for students from the various Colleges within the University to showcase their creative talents by designing posters/logos on the theme: “Generative AI: African Perspective on its Challenges and Prospects.”

In a heartwarming initiative, the College of Education (COE) celebrates staff birthdays with surprise visits by the Provost, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe or his representative. Vice-Chancellor Inspects Facilities at Tamale Learning Centre

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, continued her familiarisation visit to UG’s learning Centres. Following a visit to the Bolgatanga Learning Centre the previous day, the Vice-Chancellor together with other Senior Officials inspected facilities at the Tamale Learning Centre and interacted with the Centre Coordinator and staff.

Department of Distance Education Hosts a 3-Day Workshop on Academic Engagement and Knowledge Sharing

The Department of Distance Education recently held a three-day workshop on academic engagement and knowledge sharing. The workshop began with a welcome address by the Head of Department, Prof. Samuel Amponsah, who explained that the purpose of the workshop was to discuss opportunities for contributing to Africa's development through research.

Department of Communication Studies wins CADFP grant to host visiting scholar

The Department of Communication Studies at the School of Information and Communication Studies, College of Education, has been awarded a grant by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) to host a visiting scholar, Professor Godwin Agboka, to work on a collaborative project. Prof. Agboka, who is from the University of Houston Downtown (USA), will be working on a project titled, Curriculum Co-Development in Technical Communication. Dr. Abena Animwaa Yeboah-Banin, Head of the Department of Communication Studies, is leading the project.
