Provost fetes Distance Education Sports Personalities

On 25th November, 2022, the Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe hosted a luncheon in honour of the achievement of the sports men and women of the Department of Distance Education who participated in the 2022 University of Ghana Inter-Hall Athletics Games. The event came off following a presentation of trophies won at the Games to the Provost.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Codjoe expressed his appreciation to the distinguished sports personalities for their outstanding performance during the 2022 Inter-Hall Athletics Games. He said that “Institutions that do not honour the success of their people are not worth dying for. This is why I deem it very important to hold a lunch in your honour to thank you and to inspire you to win more medals for yourselves, for the College and the University.” He noted that the sports men and women put in great effort to win 22 medals during the games which has made the College proud. Prof. Codjoe mentioned that he was delighted about this feat and encouraged the students to mentor junior colleagues in the sports fraternity.

Speaking on behalf of the team, the Sports Secretary of the Department of Distance Education, Mr. Andrews Tetteh commended Prof. Codjoe and College Management for honouring and supporting the team. He assured the management that the Team will continue to make the College of Education proud in the field of sports.

Subsequently, the sports personalities were presented with certificates for winning medals at the Inter-Hall Games and also had the opportunity to network with College officials.

In her closing remarks, the Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education, Prof. Olivia A. T. F. Kwapong, thanked the Provost and staff present for honouring the achievement of the sportsmen and women. She stated that such recognition will serve as a motivating factor for other Distance Education students to participate in sports activities and win medals for the College and the University at large. She reiterated the need for the sports personalities to mentor other students so that more trophies could be won at the games.

Officials who were present at the luncheon included Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, College Secretary, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah, College Finance Officer and Ms. Dorinda Yeboah, Assistant Registrar.

Also present was Prof. Samuel Amponsah, Head of the Department of Distance Education, Dr. Simon Peter-Aheto, Senior Lecturer at the Department, Mrs. Regina Afari Boateng, School Administrator of the School of Continuing and Distance Education as well as staff from the Office of the Provost, College of Education.

The lunch was interspersed with music and dance moves from the sports personalities.
