Message from Provost
Welcome to the College of Education of the University of Ghana which is one of the four colleges established by the University. The College is committed to providing unrestricted access to high quality tertiary education through excellence in teaching, learning, research and scholarship at international standards. The College also seeks to improve the understanding, practice and management of Information and Communication. The College is made up of three schools: School of Continuing and Distance Education, School of Education and Leadership and School of Information and Communication Studies. It is home to the Kumasi and Takoradi City Campuses of the University as well as the University of Ghana Learning Centres located at Accra, Bolgatanga, Cape Coast, Koforidua, Sunyani, Tamale, Tema, Tsito, and Wa. The College also supervises and mentors the six colleges of education affiliated to the University of Ghana, namely, Mount Mary, Accra, Enchi, Peki, Gbewaa and Evangelical Presbyterian (Amedzofe) Colleges of Education. Two units key to the University which are located in the College of Education are the University of Ghana Printing Press and Radio Univers. Both are fast becoming the press / media of choice within the University and beyond.
The College offers a broad range of academic programmes, in information, communication, educational leadership, science education, arts education, administration, information technology, educational technology, adult education, development education, youth development, political science, physical education and sports management, among others. In addition, the College offers professional programmes in youth development, communication, librarianship, leadership, teacher education and human resource development. Our programmes are well-focused on developing students to achieve their full potential. The College through the State of the Media Report, the Annual New Year School and Conference, among others provides leadership and a platform for extensive discussions on best practices to influence the media landscape positively and for people from diverse backgrounds to have dispassionate discussions on issues of both national and international interest, in order to forge a common front towards the development of the country.
Over the years, the College has built partnerships and networks with a number of universities and institutions locally and internationally which have created platforms for collaborative teaching, research, and scholarship. Nevertheless, the College still aspires to develop more collaboration and networks in its effort to provide high quality education to our students. Faculty in the College are dedicated and well-engaged in research, scholarship and advocacy and also provide leadership in public policy discussions.
