The College Materials Office recently hosted a two-day seminar on procurement processes for officials and staff of the College. Held at the Smart Classroom of the School of Continuing and Distance Education from 4th-5th March, 2024, the seminar covered topics such as the procurement processes, responsibilities of user departments, and the legal implications of non-compliance with procurement laws.

In her presentation, Mrs. Gladys Asamoah Andoh, the College Materials Officer, provided a background on public procurement, underlining the criticality of strict adherence to procurement regulations. Emphasising the importance of identifying the need for goods, services or works and providing precise specifications, she highlighted the importance of end-users in the procurement process.

Mrs. Asamoah Andoh further encouraged active participation and feedback from end-users to enhance efficiency and effectiveness while stressing the importance of proper equipment handling to ensure longer life span. She also elaborated on the transparent procurement process facilitated by her office, which allows representatives of user departments to engage in the tendering process. “This approach ensures that tender submissions align with user requirements, as verified by technical evaluators”, she remarked.
Additionally, she explained the different procurement methods and the specific thresholds prescribed by Ghana's Public Procurement Act and reiterated the potential consequences of non-compliance with the Public Procurement Act 663.

After the presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and share examples of difficulties they had encountered during the procurement process. The Materials Officer then provided further clarification on the issues raised, helping participants better understand how to address similar challenges in the future.
The seminar was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments/Units, and staff from the College.
