The University of Ghana Takoradi City Campus has held an opening and maiden matriculation ceremony for its first cohort of students at a brief and colourful ceremony.
Welcoming the gathering, the Acting Principal of UGTCC, Prof. Bernardin Senadza, stated that the overall objective of the UGTCC is to provide a top-tier university education that equips students to excel, lead, and become responsible scholars, professionals and global citizens.

In her opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of the occasion, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, expressed her excitement about the realisation of the University’s aspiration to extend its premium services to other regions across the country through the establishment of City Campuses.

She added that as Vice-Chancellor, her aim is to bring the same high quality of education offered at the Main Legon Campus to the City Campuses, to have manageable numbers across the campuses to ensure quality teaching, learning and effective mentoring to nurture our students into citizens who are responsive to global challenges.
The Takoradi City Campus is accredited to offer Bachelor of Science in Administration with specialisations in Insurance, Public Administration, Banking and Finance and Health Services Administration.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the Western Region and beyond to patronise the unparalleled services offered at the Takoradi City Campus and to recommend it to family and friends who desire a world-class education from Ghana's premier University.
In his address, the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, welcomed all and sundry to the Western Region of Ghana and expressed his delight to the University of Ghana for the establishment of a city campus in his region.

Speaking on “Expanding access to education through the establishment of city campuses”, the Regional Minister emphasised that the establishment of city campuses will bring high quality university education to the doorsteps of those who need it and are qualified to enrol.
He commended the University of Ghana for this great initiative and wished the University tremendous success in this endeavour.
In brief remarks, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area, admonished the matriculants to see themselves as pioneers of UGTCC and strive to make their mark in the history of UGTCC.
Earlier, the Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, said the University of Ghana Takoradi City Campus, under the College of Education, is one of the two newest additions of the Premier University.

He encouraged matriculants to seize every opportunity for learning, exploration and personal development with passion, determination, and a commitment to excellence.
Prof. Charity Akotia, the Chairperson of the City Campus Implementation Committee, gave a brief history of the establishment of the University of Ghana Takoradi City Campus in her remarks.
The College Secretary, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, acting on behalf of the Registrar, administered the Matriculation oath to the students.

While expressing their excitement at their enrollment, Ms. Eliezer Antwi, a representative of the matriculants, implored the University management to consider infrastructural upgrades to make the campus livelier. She also encouraged all students to focus on their educational goals so they can achieve their ambitions. Ms. Antwi signed the Matricula on behalf of her colleague matriculants.
Musical interludes were performed by Dr. Alfred Patrick Addaquay, Lecturer, Department of Music and the Centre for National Culture.
