College of Education Formally Inducts 2025/2026 Cohort at Matriculation Ceremony

The College of Education at the University of Ghana has formally welcomed its 2025/2026 cohort at a matriculation ceremony held as part of the University’s February college-based matriculation events. The ceremony marked the second cohort to be inducted following the resumption of in-person matriculation ceremonies.

The ceremony signified the official admission of newly enrolled students into the University community as Junior Members, reaffirming the University’s values, regulations and academic standards.

Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education, delivering the Vice-Chancellor's address

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s address on behalf of Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education, congratulated the fresh men and women on gaining admission to the nation’s premier university. He noted that their admission was a proof to their hard work and perseverance.

He explained that matriculation represents the formal induction of students into the University community and involves the taking of the Matriculation Oath — a solemn pledge to uphold the University’s rules, traditions, and standards of conduct. By signing the Matriculation Register, which is completed online, students affirm their commitment to discipline, respect for authority, and the pursuit of academic and personal excellence.

Professor Codjoe reminded the students that, as ambassadors of the University, their conduct reflects on the institution’s reputation. He urged them to familiarise themselves with the University’s Strategic Priorities, mission, vision, and core values. He encouraged them to become conversant with the acronym “TICES”, representing the five strategic priorities, by the end of their first semester.

He further advised students to study the online student handbooks, engage actively with lecturers and academic advisers, and seek guidance where necessary. University life, he noted, is both exciting and demanding, requiring determination, resilience, and focus.

Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, College Registrar, College of Education, delivering remarks on behalf of the Registrar

In his remarks, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, College Registrar, College of Education, reiterated that matriculation is more than a ceremonial exercise, cautioning that students who fail to complete the required processes would not be eligible to graduate. He clarified that although visiting and short-stay students do not participate in the ceremony, they remain bound by the University’s regulations.

Ms. Genevieve Dougame, delivering the expectations address

Speaking on behalf of her fellow matriculants, Ms. Genevieve Dougame, a Bachelor of Education in English student, expressed gratitude to the University’s management and staff for the opportunity to join the institution. She encouraged her colleagues to cultivate positive associations, strive for academic excellence, and participate in internships and seminars. She also urged them to avoid negative influences and to seek support from the Career Guidance and Counselling Directorate whenever confronted with personal or academic challenges.

Ms. Dougame further encouraged students to make effective use of the facilities and resources available to support their academic journey.
