College of Education Provost discusses Action Plan with Faculty Members

Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education, recently held a series of meetings with Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members of constituent schools and departments to discuss the College’s Action Plan. The meeting, which took place from 28th February to 21st March, 2024, was also aimed at deliberating on the various initiatives that would shape the strategic direction of the College for the 2023/2024 academic year.

In his opening remarks, the Provost mentioned that the College's Action Plan aligns with the University's Strategic Plan. He explained that in order to make the meeting very interactive, it was necessary to circulate the Action Plan so that faculty members could fully understand it. Additionally, he spoke about monthly meetings of the Executive Committee, which include Deans and Heads of Departments, have been instituted to effectively monitor the progress of the plan and ensure its implementation.

Addressing financial considerations, a proposal for on-campus write shops with provided meals instead of the usual retreat for the write shop was considered. Faculty members welcomed the proposal, noting that it would increase attendance and have fewer logistical barriers. Subsequently, the Provost tasked constituent Schools to organise at least one write shop this academic year.

The Provost also announced the introduction of an award scheme by the College with different categories. He urged everyone to work hard and expressed his anticipation of many faculty members, staff, and students winning awards.

In addition, constituent schools and departments were encouraged to organise engaging activities with the six Colleges of Education under its tutelage. Suggested activities included student exchanges and visits to share experiences. The Provost indicated his willingness to support any planned activities by constituent schools and departments to assist the six Colleges of Education mentored by the College of Education, University of Ghana.

During the meeting, challenges related to the promotion of faculty members were discussed.  Prof. Codjoe urged faculty members to actively work towards their promotion. He stated that anyone experiencing certain difficulties in their promotion should speak up for a speedy resolution. He then expressed his desire to see a considerable number of faculty members promoted to the rank of Professor.

The Provost highlighted the various meetings that had been scheduled with Administrative/Professional Senior members, staff of the College, staff of both the Takoradi and Kumasi City campuses, the University of Ghana Learning Centres, as well as all PhD students.  He emphasised that plans had been made to implement the College's Action Plan diligently and collaboratively with all stakeholders.

At the end of the meeting, Faculty Members expressed their delight with this innovative approach adopted by the Provost in ensuring the effective implementation of the College’s Action Plan for the academic year.
