Ms Deborah Akyeampon is a Research Development Officer with the Research, Innovation and Development (RID) Directorate at the University of Ghana (UG). Currently assigned to the Grant Management Office within the College of Education, she plays an essential role in funding identification and dissemination, proposal and grant submissions, research contract management, and grant activation.
Before her present role, she contributed actively to advancing UG’s research management drive for about seven years. During her time, she delivered research support across three vital operational teams: the Research Performance Team, the Capacity Development Team, and the Pre-and Post Award Team (award sub-team). Her focus has been on promoting interventions that safeguard the university’s interests, primarily through the negotiation and review of research grant agreements and contracts to highlight and mitigate potential risks.
Ms Akyeampon has also actively contributed to building capacity among research support staff and academics. Through workshops for researchers, students, and research managers, she delivers critical learning insights and shares essential materials in grantsmanship. Additionally, she evaluates and interprets key performance metrics such as research publication output, citations, industry income, and industry-academia collaborations to inform strategies for improving UG's future performance in global rankings.
She is a fellow on the University Administration Support Programme, which is administered by the International Research Exchange Board and sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation. Prior to joining the University of Ghana in 2018, she worked with Strategic African Securities Limited as a Senior Corporate Finance and Research Analyst with her core strengths being in Corporate Finance, Deal Origination, and Finance Industry Research.
