The College of Education, University of Ghana (UGCoE), has reaffirmed its commitment to regulatory compliance, with Provost Prof. Peter Quartey engaging the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on programme accreditation, re-accreditation and the status of the College’s learning centres.
The engagement took place during a courtesy call on GTEC Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor, on Wednesday, 7 October 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity for the College’s leadership to discuss outstanding regulatory requirements and strengthen collaboration with the Commission.
Accompanied by the deans of the College’s three constituent schools and the College Registrar, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, Prof. Quartey emphasised the importance of understanding GTEC’s requirements to guide the College’s decisions and ensure compliance. He assured the Director-General that the College remained committed to meeting the required standards.
On the learning centres, Prof. Quartey disclosed that the College had begun an assessment of all its centres to determine their compliance with regulatory requirements. He noted that the centres continued to play an important role in extending educational opportunities to communities beyond the University’s main campus.
Prof. Jinapor urged the College to adopt a structured and time-bound approach to improving the centres. He highlighted their potential to benefit the University of Ghana, but stressed that adequate investment and a comprehensive action plan, developed in consultation with the University’s central administration, would be necessary to bring them up to the required standards.
The Director-General also directed the College to prepare a comprehensive inventory of its academic programmes, indicating their accreditation status and timelines for addressing outstanding requirements. He encouraged the College to formally communicate its concerns and proposed remedial measures to GTEC to facilitate consideration of the issues raised.
The meeting further underscored the need to address the status of programmes requiring regulatory attention while safeguarding the interests of continuing students. Prof. Jinapor advised the College to submit a formal request detailing the programmes concerned and the steps being taken to achieve compliance.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Quartey thanked the Director-General for his guidance and reiterated the College’s readiness to work with GTEC to resolve the issues discussed.

The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of UGCoE and GTEC to strengthening regulatory compliance, improving learning centres and ensuring that academic programmes meet the required standards while protecting students’ interests.
