The Office of the Provost at the College of Education recently organised a send-off ceremony for Mr. Philip Atsu Donkor, who has served as the College's Financial Accountant for the past eight years. This send-off ceremony follows a reshuffle by the Finance Directorate, affecting officers in various capacities across the University, including Mr. Atsu Donkor, the Financial Accountant of the College of Education. Mr. Donkor, the longest-serving senior member in the Finance Office at the College of Education, has now been transferred to the Student Accounts Office of the University of Ghana.
Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education
In his remarks, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College of Education, expressed the College’s appreciation for Mr. Atsu Donkor’s thoroughness in his role. Prof. Codjoe highlighted how impressed he has been with Mr. Donkor’s work, noting how his hard work had saved the College from audit embarrassments.
While acknowledging Mr. Donkor’s transfer with mixed feelings, Prof. Codjoe admitted it was difficult to see him leave. However, he believes that the move will contribute to Mr. Donkor’s professional growth. He commended Mr. Donkor for executing his role with integrity.
Prof. Codjoe also addressed the transfer of Mr. Cecil Korbla Vortia, as the new Financial Accountant of the College, acknowledging that he has big shoes to fill. Despite this, Prof. Codjoe expressed his confidence in Mr. Vortia’s competence to perform effectively in the role.
The College Registrar, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah also spoke about Mr. Donkor’s firmness and attention to detail, emphasising how these qualities have greatly benefited the College by helping it avoid scrutiny and problems with audits. He extended best wishes to Mr. Donkor as he assumes his new role.
Subsequently, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah, the College Finance Officer echoed similar sentiments, stating that the Finance Office would be losing a real gem. He noted that everyone in the College was aware of Mr. Donkor’s commitment to ensuring correct processes were followed, particularly regarding obtaining finance and securing VAT receipts. He took the opportunity to introduce Mr. Cecil Korbla Vortia who has been transferred from the Pensions Unit of the University of Ghana, as the new College Financial Accountant.
Throughout the ceremony, staff expressed their appreciation for having worked with Mr. Donkor. They shared stories of how his work ethic and principles positively impacted their professional lives, and wished Mr. Donkor the very best in his new position.
As a gesture of gratitude, the Provost presented Mr. Donkor with a token of the College’s appreciation.

In response, Mr. Philip Atsu Donkor expressed his gratitude to the Provost, the College Registrar, the College Finance Officer, and the entire College community for their cooperation and support which helped him in the discharge of his duties. He emphasised that, despite his transfer to another unit outside the College, he deeply cherishes the relationships he has built within the College community over the past eight years. Mr. Donkor added that his doors are always open, and he is willing to assist the College in any way he can when called upon.
In his closing remarks, the Provost encouraged Mr. Atsu Donkor to maintain his relationship with members of the College and to respond when they call on him. He admonished him to continue his hard work and uphold the principles that have earned him admiration. He wished Mr. Atsu Donkor all the best in his future endeavours.
