The University of Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to promoting informed academic choices and strengthening engagement with prospective students through its annual Open Day, which brought together students, parents and guardians eager to learn about the University’s programmes and opportunities.

The 2025 Open Day, held from 22nd to 24th October at the Sports and Wellness Directorate, featured two days of in-person activities and a concluding virtual webinar. The event provided a vibrant platform for interaction between University officials and the public, offering insights into the University’s wide range of academic programmes, student support services and campus life.
The opening ceremony was graced by several senior officials of the University. The Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs was represented by the Provost of the College of Education, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, who delivered the keynote address. Other dignitaries included Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate; Professor Catherine Segbefia, Chairperson of the Admissions Outreach Committee; and representatives from the Careers and Counselling Centre, the Students' Financial Aid Office, the Security Services Directorate, and the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA). Their presentations underscored the University’s dedication to supporting students’ academic and personal growth through accessible resources, guidance, and inclusive services.
Following the formal opening, prospective student, parents and guardians toured the exhibition stands mounted by the various colleges, where they interacted directly with officials and received detailed information on academic programmes, career prospects, and learning opportunities.

The College of Education featured prominently at the event with a well-curated stand coordinated by Ms. Matilda Appiah, the College’s Admissions Officer. The stand showcased flyers, brochures, and other publicity materials prepared by the College’s constituent units, supported by staff from the Academic Affairs Office. The College Registrar, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, visited the stand to inspect arrangements and lend his support to the College team.

The College’s participation was marked by strong representation from its senior officials, including Professor Olivia Kwapong, Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE); Professor James Dzisah, Dean of the School of Education and Leadership (SEL); Professor Isaac Kofi Biney, Head of the University of Ghana Learning Centres; and Professor Annabella Osei-Tutu, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies (PESS). They were accompanied by faculty members and students from their respective schools and departments, who engaged prospective students, parents and guardians in lively discussions about the College’s programmes, research strengths and career prospects.

Also present were Coordinators and staff from the Tema and Accra Learning Centres, who interacted with prospective students and shared information on distance education opportunities. The day’s activities concluded with a guided campus tour, which offered participants a firsthand experience of the University’s facilities and learning environment.

In a post-event reflection, Mr. Oduro Nkansah commended the Admissions Office for its effective coordination and active participation. He, however, encouraged greater involvement from all departments in future Open Day events to ensure a more comprehensive representation of the College’s academic and support services during both the exhibition and campus tours.

The College of Education’s participation in the 2025 Open Day reflected its deep commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and the nurturing of future educators and leaders. Through warm interactions and engaging displays, the College connected meaningfully with prospective students, inspiring them to pursue their academic goals and contribute to the future of education and lifelong learning.
