Ms. Esther Asare, an undergraduate in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies (PESS), at the School of Education and Leadership, is making significant academic and cultural strides during her Erasmus exchange programme at the University of Applied Sciences, Kufstein, Austria.

The exchange programme, designed to enhance international learning and broaden students’ academic horizons, was secured through a rigorous departmental selection process led by Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Senior Lecturer (PESS) and Professor Annabella Osei-Tutu, Head of Department (PESS). Ms. Asare was shortlisted and interviewed before earning her place on the programme.  She later completed visa processing in Nigeria and secured accommodation at the Kufstein student residence, ensuring a smooth transition into her new academic environment.

Upon arrival, she joined fellow international students for a two-day orientation on 25th and 26th September, 2025, ahead of the official start of lectures on 1st October, 2025. In a recent progress report to Dr. Bitugu, programme coordinator at the University of Ghana, Ms. Asare described the academic environment as both challenging and rewarding. “It is very independent learning here; you need strong personal discipline,” she said.

She is currently pursuing ten courses, totalling 30 ECTS credits, including Artificial Intelligence, Business Planning, Simulation Modelling, Marketing and Strategic Management. She noted that the University’s blend of theoretical instruction, practical workshops and student-led presentations has strengthened her analytical skills and deepened her academic experience.

Beyond her studies, Ms. Asare has embraced the cultural vibrancy of Austria. A notable highlight of her stay was her participation in the University’s November 2025 exchange fair, where she represented both the University of Ghana and Ghana by preparing traditional Ghanaian dishes and engaging with students from various countries. “It was a proud moment of cultural exchange and national representation,” she remarked.

Reflecting on her first two months abroad, Esther describes the exchange programme as transformative, citing academic advancement, cultural immersion and personal development as key benefits. She intends to maintain strong academic performance, expand her international networks and continue exploring the local community during the remainder of her stay.
