Resilience, Service and Excellence Mark College of Education’s 2nd Staff and Students Awards and Dinner Dance

The College of Education has hosted its second Staff and Students Awards & Dinner Dance, an elegant celebration that brought together staff, students, alumni, and distinguished guests to honour excellence, dedication, and outstanding service. The event, held on Friday, 28th November, 2025, at the Great Hall, provided an elegant evening of fine music and top-class hospitality.

In his welcome address, the Provost of the College of Education, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, congratulated all award recipients and outlined the categories of awards. He also announced the introduction of a new award—the Community Resilience Award—created to honour individuals who pursue or support education with extraordinary determination in the face of significant personal challenges.

This year’s award was presented to Madam Beauty Dzifa Adodo, a single mother recognised for her unwavering commitment to ensuring her daughter, Rebecca Tetteh, receives a quality education. Professor Codjoe described her perseverance and sacrifices as “a true inspiration to our community."

Chairman of the ceremony and Chair of the College of Education Advisory Board, Mr. Nana Dwemoh Benneh, commended the awardees, noting that their achievements reflect the College’s core values of diligence, service, integrity and continuous improvement. He urged staff and students to view the honours as motivation to strive higher and contribute meaningfully to the College’s growth.

Mr. Benneh underscored the crucial role of education in national development, describing it as the foundation upon which societies build resilience, innovation and economic progress. He encouraged the College community to embrace creativity, research and collaboration, noting that the purpose of the Awards & Dinner Dance is to inspire excellence, not foster competition and called for unity and collective achievement.

Providing insights into the awards selection process, Mr. Michael Leslie Bartlett-Vanderpye, Chairman of the Planning Committee, together with Dr. Hayford Ayerakwa, Chairman of the Selection Sub-Committee, explained that nominations were assessed using principles of fairness, transparency and credibility. Mr. Bartlett-Vanderpye expressed appreciation to the planning committee, esteemed sponsors and the wider College community for their support, describing the ceremony as the culmination of months of careful planning dedicated to celebrating hard work and innovation.

“Recognising excellence not only boosts morale but strengthens the College’s culture of distinction. Excellence is not a destination but a continuous journey that requires consistency, teamwork and integrity,” he noted.

A key highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards across multiple categories. Graduate and undergraduate students were celebrated for academic distinction, innovation, sportsmanship and overall performance, including students from the affiliate Colleges of Education. Junior and senior staff, as well as senior members (academic and non-academic), were honoured for their contributions to the College’s advancement. Provost’s Special Awards recognised individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service over the years.

Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, alumna Jackie Appiah reaffirmed their commitment to supporting education and student development, acknowledging the critical role of partnerships in nurturing talent and fostering excellence.

As the ceremony drew to a close, the College of Education reiterated its dedication to promoting excellence and strengthening its academic community.
