COLLEGE OF EDUCATION HOSTS APPRECIATION DINNER FOR NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL AND STAFF

The College of Education hosted an appreciation dinner for a staff member and fourteen (14) National Service Personnel who served the College during the 2022/2023 academic year. The event recognised their efforts and service to the College over the period.

Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, Provost of the College, chaired the event.  He expressed his appreciation for the dedicated work of the personnel over the period. He noted that working and travelling alongside the personnel enabled him to engage with them personally. Professor Codjoe took the opportunity to offer valuable advice to the personnel, emphasizing on the importance of seizing opportunities as they arise. He encouraged them to utilize their talents and learn outside their field of study while working diligently at the workplace. He admonished them to be obedient and avoid excuses when assigned a task. “When an opportunity presents itself, grab it and do your best. If you do your best and it is still not enough, at least you will know you did everything possible, even if it ultimately was not enough” he added.

In a brief remark, Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, the College Secretary, expressed his satisfaction with working with the personnel in advancing the work of the College. He noted that the world is full of opportunities, yet some youth appear unprepared to seize them. He added that the professional world has its own challenges and individuals must give off their best when offered the opportunity. As such, he encouraged personnel to network, share ideas and collaborate on solutions to national issues. He then admonished them to take their spiritual lives seriously as the physical and spiritual realms complement each other.

Sharing their experiences, the National Service Personnel recounted their experiences and opportunities gained during their stay at the College of Education more specifically and the University of Ghana more broadly. They indicated their duties had exposed them to an environment different than what they studied at school. Nonetheless, the personnel acknowledged these experiences helped shape their lives and broaden their perspectives beyond the school setting.

Consequently, they unanimously expressed gratitude to the management of the College for their support and cooperation throughout their service. They extended their appreciation to Provost for granting them the opportunity to travel with him to the University of Ghana Learning Centres and City Campuses.

Mr. Foster Tetteh, previously assigned to the Office of the Provost, was acknowledged and honoured for his commitment and diligence during the period he was assigned to the Office of the Provost. Mr. Tetteh has recently been promoted and transferred to the University of Ghana Learning Centre, where he will assume the role of an Administrative Assistant.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Codjoe emphasized on the College’s commitment to support the National Service Personnel when opportunities arise. He underscored how the services provided by the National Service Personnel are appreciated by the faculty and staff of the College.  Finally, he wished the personnel well in their future endeavours.
