A Delegation from The Nelson Mandela University, Pays Courtesy Call on Provost of The College of Education, University of Ghana

A delegation from the Nelson Mandela University (NMU), led by Professor André Keet, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Engagement and Transformation (CriSHET), who also holds the Research Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation, paid a courtesy call on the Provost, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, on Monday, October 9, 2023, to discuss possible areas of collaboration between the College and the Nelson Mandela University.

The Provost was joined by Professor Gordon S. K. Adika in welcoming the delegation. Discussions were held on possible areas of collaborations between the Nelson Mandela University and the College of Education, University of Ghana.   Of particular interest is exploring avenues to work together with the College under the auspices of the Centre for Educational Research Studies, which the College seeks to establish, the Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation at NMU and ACUSAfrica on studying the University as a social system.

The courtesy call preceded a Colloquium on Advancing Critical University Studies Across Africa (ACUSAfrica) Network held at the University of Ghana, from October 11 to 13, 2023. ACUSAfrica, an initiative began in 2019 by the Nelson Mandela University, the University of Ghana and Queens University, Belfast, is led by Professor André Keet, Professor Michael Okyerefo and Professor Dina Beluigi. ACUSAfrica has secured an MOU between NMU and UG for their purposes and as a prelude to discussions on an institution-wide MOU between the two universities.

Present at the meeting were Professor Gordon SK Adika, Dean, School of Education and Leadership, Professor Michael Okyerefo, Department of Sociology, University of Ghana, and Dr. Jenny du Preez, Programme Coordinator for the Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation at Nelson Mandela University and Coordinator for the ACUSAfrica.
