Vice-Chancellor Inaugurates College of Education Advisory Board

On May 30, 2023, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo inaugurated the Advisory Board of the College of Education at a brief ceremony at the New Council Chamber.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Amfo thanked the Chairperson and members for accepting to serve on the Advisory Board of the College of Education. She noted that the Board was composed of members with a wealth of resources, expertise and experience which would be tapped into towards the achievement of the goals of the College. Touching on the role of the Advisory Board, the Vice Chancellor indicated that the Chair and members of the Board are regarded as strategic partners of the University of Ghana in its aspiration of becoming a world-class research-intensive university.

She reiterated the need to work together to create a culture that promotes research, teaching, learning, administrative processes and extension activities driven by technology and anchored in humanism. In line with this, the Vice-Chancellor stated that “as you sit to deliberate on issues, keep in mind that the University is in existence for the public good and to give students the best experience.” The Vice-Chancellor indicated that she trusts the Board will be supportive in this regard while advancing the course of the College of Education and the University at large.

The Chairman of the Advisory Board, Mr. Nana Kwadwo Dwemoh Benneh, in his remarks thanked the Vice-Chancellor, the Provost and the UG team while acknowledging the University’s remarkable position on World Universities Ranking. On behalf of the members, he indicated that they were delighted to be affiliated with the University of Ghana in this capacity and would harness their experiences to bring on board many ideas. He was pleased to be given the responsibility to work with the distinguished members of the Board to fulfil the objectives and statutes of the College. He was hopeful that the Board would work efficiently to deliver on its mandate.

Other members also expressed appreciation for the honour to serve on the Board and pledged their support to contribute towards the success of delivering its mandate.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe expressed his appreciation to the Chairman and members for agreeing to serve on the Advisory Board. He gave an overview of the College of Education and the Colleges of Education affiliated to the University of Ghana. He said that he looked forward to having fruitful deliberations with the Board.

Members of the University fraternity who were present at the inauguration ceremony were Mrs. Eliezer Ameyaw Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyarko-Dankwah, Director of Academic Affairs Directorate, Ms. Claudia Abbey, a representative from the Office of the Legal Counsel, Prof. Olivia Kwapong, Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education and Prof. Gordon Adika, Dean of the School of Education and Leadership.

College officials present included Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, College Secretary, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah, College Finance Officer, Mrs. Joycelyn Boateng, College Human Resource Officer, Dr. Jack Dotsey, Executive Director of the Annual New Year School Secretariat and Mrs. Rodarling Neequaye, Administrator of the School of Education and Leadership and staff of the Office of the Provost.
