A delegation of the College of Education led by the Acting Provost, Professor Martin Oteng- Ababio has paid a working visit to the Enchi College of Education in the Western North Region.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Acting Provost and his team not only to interact with the staff and students of the College, but also to familiarise themselves with the operations at the Enchi College, one of the six colleges of education affiliated to the University of Ghana.
In his welcome address, Mr. Philip Ntaah, Principal of the College thanked the Acting Provost and his team for the visit and expressed the College’s excitement at hosting the UG Team. He disclosed that the College had engaged in various initiatives to create an enabling environment for staff, students and members of the local community. Among the initiatives is a recently launched “catch them young” programme which offers free French lessons for community members and aims to improve communication between indigenes and their French-speaking neighbours. He used the occasion to appeal to the University of Ghana to explore the possibility of establishing a satellite campus of the Distance Learning programme at the Enchi College of Education to enhance the personal development of staff. This would also enable the institution to heed appeals from some professionals in the locality and adjourning towns such as immigration and customs officers to the University to provide opportunities for distance education in the area.

On his part, Prof. Oteng- Ababio expressed his appreciation to the Principal and staff for the warm reception. He welcomed the request for establishing a satellite University of Ghana Distance programme at Enchi and pledged his support towards the realisation of this goal. He encouraged staff of the College to publish widely in high-impact journals and promised to liaise with College Management to run training programmes for them in that direction.
Subsequently, the team together with the Enchi College Management interacted with students of the College. In his submission, Prof. Oteng-Ababio shared some life experiences with students and charged them to see challenges as hurdles that have to be surmounted in order to achieve their dreams.
Additionally, Prof. Oteng- Ababio and his team addressed various concerns of staff and students which included infrastructural and professional development, academic issues such as the release of students’ grades, financial issues and staff welfare, among others.
The other members of the delegation from the University included Dr. Emmanuel Adjei-Boateng, Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the B.Ed Programme, Mr. Daniel Afari, Management Accountant of the College of Education, and Audrey Djarbeng, Senior Administrative Assistant at the Office of the Provost, College of Education.
